Here is a comprehensive first-time home buyer checklist for you to use on the big day.
1. Plan your positioning
Failing to plan is planning to fail and this is exactly the motto that ties in with Moving Day.
Things will go a lot smoother if you plan the positioning of your valuables. Of course, you do not need to know exactly how everything will stand, but it is important to know where it will stand.
Make a list of the furniture that you would want to put in every room. And once everything is where it should be, you can decide how you want your furniture to be placed.
2. Copying keys is...key!
As soon as you have finished unpacking your valuables it would be a good idea to stop at the local hardware shop in order to make copies of the keys to your new house.
You might want to consider changing the locks on your house as well. This way anyone that still has access or copies of the keys won't be able to get inside the house.
You can also change the lights of the house, inside and out. LEDs work great because the brighter the light, the less likely intruders will be climbing through your windows.
3. No pets until moving is complete
You might weep at the thought of sending your precious furbabies away for the weekend, but experts have noted that keeping your pets away from the new home initially is very beneficial.
After all, animals are prone to investigation and they might be so busy exploring your new surroundings that they might get injured in between the moving. (Not to mention that you might become highly annoyed with them being under your feet the whole time!)
Another reason why you should keep your pets away from your new home is because it's a strange place to them. New surroundings often bring different types of noises as well as different types of people. Some dogs might be able to handle the noises, but others might become too frightened or scared.
This way you can avoid the possibility of a missing pet and have a stress-free move.
4. Confirm service delivery
Something that slips our mind quite often is the fact that we have to reschedule basic services when we move to a new home.
When you are settled in and finished packing out, if you haven't already, make sure to contact the service delivery in your area to update your contact details with your new address. This is especially important when it comes to setting up your telephones, your internet, and your television subscriptions.
The sooner you inform them, the sooner they can take care of it for you.
