It did not come as much of a surprise when the Reserve Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee unanimously voted to keep our repo rate unchanged at 6,75% during their March sitting. With the war in the Middle East showing no signs of abating, there is a substantial possibility that the rising fuel prices will quickly lead to the increase of consumer goods. In themselves, this will lead to a rise in inflation, which may then usher in the first repo rate hike in almost three years.
